American Toad (Bufo americanus)
Size: 2 to 4.5 inches
Range: found throughout Michigan; may be around in suburban areas
Habitat: wooded areas, meadows, and lakeshores
Life cycle: breeding = early April to early May; metamorphosis = 1.5 to 2.5 months

Needs: cool daytime shelter, loose soils, and insect food source
Interesting Characteristics: will frequent night-lights; a modest-sized toad will
eat about 3,200 insects in a season
