Fowler's Toad (Bufo woodhousii fowleri)

Size: 2 to 5 inches
Range: western and southern counties of the Lower Peninsula
Habitat: wooded areas, fields, sandy area,; Sleeping Bear Sand Dune area
Life cycle: breeding = mid May to mid June; metamorphosis = 4 months
Call: sounds like sheep; CAE.wav
Needs: cool daytime shelter, loose soils, and insect food source
Interesting Characteristics: will frequent night-lights; a modest-sized toad will eat about 3,200 insects in a season
